A young mathematician or engineer sees a comprehensible path: a strong education, a frontier laboratory, a large budget, real influence, high standing.

None of these has a mature answer. Each has practical consequences that will arrive whether or not philosophy is ready for them.

## What we want to give philosophy back

Historically philosophy covered nearly the whole picture of the world, and the separate sciences grew out of it. Specialisation brought enormous advantages and, at the same time, fragmentation: large questions began to fall between faculties.

We see philosophy as one of the main instruments of reverse integration. A philosopher can work next to a neuroscientist, an AI researcher, a geneticist or a political theorist, and formulate the fundamental questions before society is handed the finished technological facts. That is the role of a conceptual engineer, not a commentator.
