Bottleneck
The specific area of missing understanding that is currently holding back the rest of the system most expensively, and therefore the first candidate for a redirection of resources.
Synchronism is not interested in the average rate of progress but in what most constrains everything else at a given moment. The working question is: which of our failures to understand is currently costing the most, or blocking the largest potential?
The bottleneck migrates. In one period it may be fundamental biology, in another political theory, neuroscience or energy. The movement keeps not a list of priorities but a mechanism for finding them.
