Civilizational Synchronism
A philosophical movement that treats progress as the interconnected development of knowledge, technology, the human being, society and institutions, and proposes to make the detection of lags between them a standing function of civilisation.
Its opening claim is that different areas of civilisation develop at different speeds. Because of this, humanity gains new capabilities before it has understood their consequences, its own nature, or the systems in which those capabilities will operate.
Synchronism proposes to find the fields that lag critically and to direct research attention, talent and resources there. Its final aim is a civilisation able to steer its own development deliberately.
The word «synchronisation» here means co-evolution, not equal speed: different fields need different tempos at different times.
